Compassion in Action: Celebrating Women and Kindness Beyond International Women’s Day

As we celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March and throughout the month, we are reminded of the extraordinary strength, resilience, and compassion of women around the world.

At L’atelier Himalaya, we believe that every day is Women’s Day.

From the very beginning, our mission has been simple: to create beautiful handmade candles that also create meaningful impact. That is why 10% of the net profit from every Karuna candle sold is dedicated to supporting projects for women and girls in Nepal.

Although our candle project was only launched in November 2025, we strongly believe that we should not wait for success or profitability before supporting the causes we care about.

For us, impact begins with intention.

Supporting Compassion in Kathmandu

We are proud to support a remarkable Nepalese woman who, despite facing difficult personal circumstances, spends her days feeding street dogs in Kathmandu.

With no institutional support and no stable funding, she relies entirely on the kindness and generosity of individuals who believe in her work.  Her dedication and compassion are a powerful reminder that meaningful change often begins with one person choosing to care.

Why Animal Welfare Matters to Us

Our Karuna candles are sustainable, vegan, and cruelty-free, and animal welfare is a cause deeply aligned with our values. Preventing animal abuse and protecting vulnerable animals is an extension of the compassion we strive to promote through our work.

By supporting her efforts, we are helping protect some of the most vulnerable lives in the city.

The Meaning Behind Karuna

This initiative reflects the spirit behind L'atelier Himalaya and our Karuna candles.

In Sanskrit and Nepali, Karuna means compassion - a value that guides everything we do at L’atelier Himalaya.

When you choose a Karuna candle, you are not simply bringing warmth and fragrance into your home. You are also helping extend compassion beyond it.

Celebrating Women Who Make the World Kinder

As we mark International Women’s Day and reflect throughout the month of March, we celebrate women everywhere who quietly and courageously make the world a kinder place  - often without recognition.

These women remind us that compassion, dedication, and small acts of care can create powerful ripple effects.

We are grateful to have you as part of this journey.

Every candle you purchase helps grow our ability to support women-led initiatives and compassionate projects in Nepal.

With gratitude,
The L’atelier Himalaya Team
